End of Cyanogen OS

Yes, Cyanogen has ceased the development of Cyanogen OS. This means that there won't be any new updates for your device.

There is one exception: Wileyfox devices will still get updates from Wileyfox. Wileyfox has developed their own operating system. If you are on the latest Cyanogen OS version, you'll automatically get an update to their own operating system.

Yes, you may do so, because there won't be any new updates for your device once you're on the latest version.

I have a Wileyfox phone. Isn't Wileyfox still developing software for my phone?

Yes, Wileyfox still is, but that software is no longer being based on Cyanogen OS anymore. Therefore, the Wileyfox software is not supported. If you have a Wileyfox device, you may also uninstall the app.

There are a couple of reasons why:

LineageOS has an excellent built-in system update app, which can check for updates every day. That is more often than you should ever need.

Also, LineageOS updates are available immediately to everybody. So there is no need to use another app to get updates faster.

Then the other operating systems: these are mostly released by smaller teams, on an irregular basis, and often are not updatable using OTA updates (built-in updater, no computer required). As most of these ROMs require advanced installation steps for each version / device, offering them in a standardised app is not feasible.

This app and the Cyanogen OS download page will remain operational for all existing devices / OS versions at least until July, 2019. You can use them to update an older device to the latest Cyanogen OS version.

This is possible since the update information and all downloads are stored on the Cyanogen Update Tracker server, which is - in contrast to the Cyanogen servers - still available.

General:

You can only run and use this app on a device running Cyanogen OS. To view the list of supported devices, click here.

Almost all devices should be supported, except for the Alcatel POP Mirage and the Obi Worldphone MV1. These devices were not sold worldwide (Yes, even the Obi Worldphone was not!) and have no operating system files available online. Therefore these devices cannot be supported.

Yes, the app requires a network connection to recieve update information and to download system updates.

The only feature that works without a network connection, is the device information screen.

During a typical user sesison, around 200 - 500kb of data is used to download the update information and to show the ads. When downloading an update, the amount of data displayed next to the download symbol is used to download the update. Due to the large download size of the update files, it's always recommended to connect to Wi-Fi when downloading an update using this app.

Due to the long name of the app, the app launcher name of the app had to be shortened to "Update Tracker". This means you'll find it with the letter "U" within your apps list

Yes, you can correct this mistake very easily by going back to the settings screen. To do so:

- Close this page using the back key.

- At the main screen, click the three dots in the top right of the app, and choose "Settings".

- At the settings screen, change the device and update method to the right values.

- Press the back key to exit the settings screen.

No, this app does NOT allow you to install LineageOS or another ROM on your Android device. It is only meant to offer downloads to devices already running Cyanogen OS from the factory.

If you want to run LineageOS, please visit the LineageOS website to download LineageOS .

If your device is not listed on the LineageOS website, it is unfortunately not supported by LineageOS. You may try to visit XDA Developers to download another ROM for your device.
(Note: The developer of this app is not related with LineageOS or XDA developers).

You are using an outdated version of the app, which is no longer supported.

You can update to the latest version for free using the Google Play store.

The old versions of the app are no longer supported, as they lack certain features required to offer the appropriate updates for each device (based on your currently installed Cyanogen OS version). Installing wrong updates might cause your device to get stuck on the boot screen. To prevent this from happening, you must update the app before downloading / installing any software update.

Using the app:

If asked, always send an error report so I can try to improve the app and fix this issue.

Then try to reboot the device and try doing the same action in the app again. If it still crashes, feel free to send me an e-mail (click here) to explain the situation.

Due to the fact that Cyanogen has ceased the development of Cyanogen OS, there are no plans to bring new features to the app or the website.

This can be caused by various reasons:
- Check your internet connection.
- The server might be down for maintenance. Please try again after a few minutes.
- Due to a recent server change, older versions of the app (1.5.0 and older) are no longer operational. Please make sure you are using the latest version of the app. You can update by visiting the Play Store and clicking on "My Apps and Games" in the left menu. The update should be offered at this screen.

Downloading system updates:

You should usually choose the "Incremental Update" update method. There are two exceptions:

- If your device is rooted or has custom Recovery software (TWRP etc.) installed, you'll need to choose the "Full Update" method because the incremental updates won't work.

- If you have the feeling you are on a very old system version, you may choose the Full update to get you to the latest version at once. However, downloading a full update package might take several times longer.

Updates you download are saved in the "Download" folder on the storage of your device.

If you have an SD card inserted, the downloaded updates could be saved in the "Download" folder on your SD card.

Yes, you can delete a downloaded update file using the Files app on your device.

Some update files are very large to download. Also, if your network connection is slow or if many people are downloading updates at the same time, your download may take longer to complete.

Installing system updates:

No, third party applications - like this one - are not allowed to automatically install system updates due to security reasons of the Android platform.

Cyanogen changed the Recovery environment from Cyanogen OS 13.0 onwards. They renamed "Choose from internal storage" to "Choose from emulated".

To find the update file, click on "Choose from emulated". Next, click on "0" to open the internal storage. Finally, use the volume keys to scroll to the "Download" folder. This folder contains the downloaded update

*NOTE:*
Some users with the new Recovery of Cyanogen OS 13 can't find the "Download" folder. If it was not located under the "0" option, try choosing the "11" option if it exists.

The update file should be in your "Download" folder. If it's not there, try re-downloading it again.

Press the back button until you are at the main screen. If your device has no physical buttons, you can select the ".." option at the top of the screen and press the power button to select it.

Select "Reboot system now" at the main screen to leave Recovery Mode.

If you get this error message, it means that the update process has detected an unexpected change in the hidden system partition of your device. This is usually caused by rooting or installing custom Operating Systems on your device.

If you haven't modified your device, it can be caused by a slight file corruption on your internal storage. Please be cautious and get your device repaired if it starts freezing or rebooting on its own.

The solution is to restart your device, open this app again and change your update method to "Full update". Then install that update file and try installing the update that gave the error message again.

To switch to full update: Open the app, click the three dots in the top right, choose Settings, select Full update under update method and press the back key.

To switch back after you have fixed this: Open the Settings again and select Incremental update under update method.

This error is usually caused by rooting or installing a custom Recovery environment on your device.

You can only install incremental updates using the stock Recovery environment and on a non-rooted device.

If you have a rooted device but still use the stock Recovery environment (this is the case if you don't know what Recovery enviroment is), there is a workaround:

- Open Cyanogen Update Tracker
- Click the three dots in the top right, and choose Settings
- Choose "Full update" as update method at the Settings screen
- Use the back key to go back to the app screen
- Download the update that is presented
- Install this update using the install guide
- Install the update that gave the error message again, it should now proceed and install

- After the updates are installed, open the Settings screen again and choose Incremental update as Update Method.
- The device is no longer rooted. You'll have to re-root it again on yourself.

Device information screen:

You are likely using an unsupported device or have no network connection. In those cases, the app bases the device name of your device on internally known values. Those internal values might be different than the actual name of the device.

This happens when Cyanogen Update Tracker cannot determine the belonging spec of your device.

Not all Android devices are the same, which means not all specs can be obtained the same way. It is likely that Cyanogen Update Tracker failed to find the missing information at the usual place it should have been.

As Cyanogen Update Tracker is not designed to be a comprehensive system information app, it can't and doesn't try all possible combinations to find all specifications for your device.

If you really want to see all the specs of your device, take a look at the CPU-Z app. That app is designed to deliver you all specs of your device.
(CPU-Z is not affiliated with Cyanogen Update Tracker in any way, it's purely suggested here)

ZUK Z1

The ZUK Z1 uses a different key combination to enter the Recovery mode. Please keep both the [power], [volume +] and [volume -] buttons pressed when entering Recovery mode.

If you encounter this issue, you're likely using an older version of the app. Older versions of the app displayed this wrong. Therefore, update to the latest version of Cyanogen Update Tracker today.

No, there is no update to Cyanogen OS 13 available.

The ZUK Z1 uses a different key combination to enter the Recovery mode. Please keep both the [power], [volume +] and [volume -] buttons pressed when entering Recovery mode. If you're reading this, it's likely you're using an older version of Cyanogen Update Tracker or are offline. Older versions of the app displayed this wrong. Therefore, update to the latest version of Cyanogen Update Tracker today.

No, there is no update to Marshmallow available unless you flash a custom ROM yourself.

No, there is no update to Nougat available unless you flash a custom ROM yourself.

YU YUREKA (plus)

Unfortunately, this issue has been frequently occurring.
It can have 2 causes:

- Phones that were brought to a service center, got a wrong version of the operating system installed by the service personnel.
- Some new phones shipped with an outdated Cyanogen OS version that seems unable to get updates installed

There is no solution to this issue, other than performing an operating system flash using a computer or bringing the device to a nearby service center with this error as complaint.

YU YUPHORIA

This question has been asked many times, but the answer is - unfortunately - "no".

Even though such an update may have been promised in the past, a VoLTE update was never released. I don't even know if the hardware of the phone supports this feature.

VoLTE is mainly required for "Jio" in India. If you want to use their service, you'll have to upgrade to a newer, VoLTE capable, device. Or you may sign a contract with a carrier that uses the 3G network for making calls and texts. 4G Data can still be used like normal.
